Hartpury College, officially Hartpury University and Hartpury College, is a provider of further and higher education which describes itself as specialising in the "agriculture, animal, equine, sport and veterinary nursing" sectors. The university and college is set in a 360-hectare estate located in Hartpury, near Gloucester, in Gloucestershire, England.

The college was established in the post-World War II era of the late 1940s, as an agricultural college with 50 students. The college remained relatively unchanged until 1990, when a rapid expansion programme started with the provision of a larger variety of further education courses.

Hartpury's link with the University of the West of England (UWE) began in 1997 when Hartpury was awarded Associate Faculty status. In 2017, Hartpury was granted ‘Taught Degree Awarding Powers’ (TDAP), and in the same year was awarded the Teaching Excellence Framework Gold award. Hartpury College gained full university status in 2018 and changed its name to Hartpury University and Hartpury College.

Hartpury has been ranked among the top 10 universities in the UK in the prestigious 2019 Whatuni Student Choice Awards.

The specialist education institution was rated second in the Job Prospects category and in the top 10 in the other three categories for which it was nominated – Courses and Lecturers, University Facilities and Student Support.

The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are the only university experience awards ceremony based on student reviews.

Now in their sixth year, the WUSCAs offer prospective students an unbiased, student-led alternative to traditional university ranking systems.

The awards are based on averages taken from tens of thousands of reviews submitted by students and published on Whatuni.com.

Rosie Scott-Ward, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Hartpury University, said: “We’re pleased to have been ranked among the 10 universities in the UK in four categories in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards, especially because they’re voted for by the people that matter most, the students themselves.

“Our high placing in the Job Prospects category reflects the fact that 98 per cent of our graduates are in employment or further study within six months after graduating (DLHE, 2018).

“But we’re continually striving to provide an enhanced student experience in all aspects of life on campus, which we hope will be reflected by even better results in next year’s Whatuni Awards.”

Hartpury University is home to more than 1,800 students completing undergraduate, postgraduate degrees and PhDs, as well as higher education diplomas and postgraduate research in Sport, Equine, Animal, Agriculture and Veterinary Nursing.

Students have access to one of the world’s largest equine educational facilities and cutting-edge sports facilities, an extensive animal collection, an animal therapy centre, science laboratories with industry standard equipment and a fully working farm.

It is the only educational institution in Gloucestershire to be awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), which ranks providers based on their teaching and learning for students, putting it among the top higher education providers nationally.
