Our history: born from vision
In 1946, forward-thinking Dutch companies like KLM, Unilever, Shell, Akzo, and Philips founded Nyenrode. At the time, the institution was called the Netherlands Training Institute for Abroad (NOIB). Their vision was clear: the Netherlands needed internationally oriented leaders for economic reconstruction after World War II.
The founding partners joined forces to train young talent into leaders with an international perspective, strongly rooted in entrepreneurship and with a sense of responsibility. This gave Nyenrode a unique position within Dutch higher education: a private institution with strong connections to business. In 1982, Nyenrode officially received university status.
