In September 2007, BPP University made history by becoming the first publicly owned company in the UK to obtain degree awarding powers.

This process involved making a detailed application to the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education in the United Kingdom, which acted on behalf of the Office for Students. BPP University’s unique approach is education that is academically rigorous but also grounded in practical application that is highly relevant to our students, stakeholders and industry.

In 2020, BPP University was granted indefinite taught degree awarding powers (TDAP) under the Office for Students (OfS) new regulatory framework. The award of indefinite TDAP, which will come into force on 1st September 2020 acknowledges the University’s academic integrity as a mature higher education institution with rigorous standards and academic governance.

It has around 15,000 students, studying across 13 centres, in eight locations across England and online around the world. 70% are full-time, over 84% are on postgraduate programmes.

Why?

Our Learning Framework

At BPP, all our programs utilize our innovative and unique learning framework, focused entirely on assessment and career success.

Our 5 step learning methodology

At BPP, all our programs utilize our innovative learning framework, focused entirely on assessment and career success. It progresses learners through their studies in five consistent steps:

  1. Prepare
  2. Apply
  3. Collaborate
  4. Consolidate
  5. Assessment

1. Prepare

This is the stage where learners build the knowledge to underpin their program, receiving regular feedback on their progress. They attend lectures and seminars, delivered face-to-face or by Online Classroom Live for remote, live teaching sessions.

For some courses, we have used the expert knowledge of our sectors to create learning methodologies focused on career and exam success.

2. Apply

Learners now apply the knowledge they have developed to real-world tasks. We replicate  processes and systems used in practice and assessments to deliver our teaching including:

  • Our Virtual Practice Environment (VPE), a custom-built platform simulating realistic scenarios in law firms and barristers chambers, allows law students to practically apply their new knowledge.
  • We provide exam practice platforms that simulate exams and assessments to give our learners an incredibly realistic opportunity to practice before their actual exam
  • Apprenticeship programs are built around practical missions, assignments, and exercises to contextualize learning
  • Nursing and Healthcare students complete clinical exercises and placements
  • Data and technology students work through their program using business simulations – real-world entrepreneurial examples and case studies to practice business building skills and using industry-standard software to apply their learning.

3. Collaborate

This helps the learner to shape and refine their understanding through discussion, testing and carrying out more advanced practical and realistic tasks. This also helps to develop valuable team-working skills.

Learners are guided through this stage with extensive support from Coaches, Programme Advisers and support teams who provide interventions to help learners at the right time, with the right level of support. They stay connected with each other on our virtual campus, BPP Community. This online platform offers a great way to take part in social events, listen to guest speakers, share interests, and more.

4. Consolidate

This stage ensures learners embed their knowledge so that it can be stored in their long-term memory. It also provides plenty of opportunity to practice retrieving and applying that knowledge by completing revision tasks and tests.

Our extensive experience in delivering online education means we have a wealth of insight and understanding into the performance of our learners and the indicators we can measure to predict the likelihood of success.

By identifying these behaviors, our tutors and support team can intervene when needed and give targeted and relevant support. This results in improved completion and pass rates for our learners and feeds back into the way we deliver our courses using our Momentum methodology.

5. Assessment

Learners will continuously pass through these different stages until they are optimally prepared for their assessments.

Alongside face-to-face assessments, we also offer a range of Digital Assessment options.
