Akdeniz University was founded in 1982 in Antalya, Turkey. From its foundation to the present day, it has experienced a process of continuous evolution and growth to the point where, with its 24 faculties, 7 institutes, 1 school, 1 conservatory, 12 vocational schools, 4 departmental directorates, and 54 research and application centres, it can provide quality higher educational services in a wide range of different fields, and enjoys a reputation for being an innovative and dynamic university in its approach to developing scientific research and applications at an international level.

Akdeniz University has played a significant role which provides added value to the entire country from a starting point in the West Mediterranean region of Turkey by implementing important activities of vital importance in the fields of education, research and development, and in the services it provides to society. Akdeniz University has put its signature on a list of outstanding successes in the fields of health, science, social development, education, language and arts at both the national and international level. At the end of May 2017, Akdeniz University had 69,030 students, and 4,303 members of the academic and administrative staff.

In addition to extensive cooperation within Europe, Akdeniz University has concluded 50 cooperation protocols from 22 different countries with universities throughout the world.

Akdeniz University has an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) 2014-2020, and has an active role in the Erasmus+ Programme, sending and hosting students and staff to Erasmus+ programme countries.

Akdeniz University has 95 Mevlana Exchange Programme Protocols from 29 different countries. Mevlana Exchange Programme aims the exchange of students and academic staff between the Turkish higher education institutions and higher education institutions of other countries. Mevlana Exchange Programme scholarships are sourced entirely from within Turkey.

International students can be eligible to study at Akdeniz University provided that they achieve a pass grade in the Akdeniz University International Students Examination (AKDEN?Z YÖS). AKDEN?Z YÖS-2018 took place in 10 different countries in 21 centres.
