FSBEI HE BSMU was founded in 1932. BSMU is the center of the medical and pharmaceutical sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The University is included in domestic and international university rating lists (e.g. Round University Ranking, UniRank, Ranking Web of Universities and some others).
The faculty of the university consists of famous scientists and practitioners who are involved in educational, medical and scientific activities. The staff of the university is unique - there are about 268 professors, doctors of sciences and 739 candidates of sciences and associate professors. BSMU is well known throughout the Russian Federation and among the world's best medical institutions for its scientific schools of Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Cardiology and Morphology (anatomy). Scientists of the Bashkir State Medical University successfully represent the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Russian Federation at international events in various areas of biomedical sciences. One of the significant events was the hosting of the Health Week of the SCO member countries and BRICS summits held in Ufa in 2015. The University became the organizer and the venue for the First Russian-Chinese Congress of Neurosurgeons, and on June 2018, the First Russian-Chinese Congress on the Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases and the Russian-Chinese Congress on Microbiology.
About 9 thousand students from Russia and countries of near and far abroad receive higher education at the university. In 2018, the number of foreign students reached 1088 from 37 different countries. The annual recruitment of international students is more than 350 students annually.
The University implements continuing education programs: starting from working with schoolchildren (profile classes) and ending with a powerful system of additional vocational education for the education and advanced training of doctors. To foster the educational process, there are lecture halls, interactive classes, laboratories, a center for mastering practical understanding and skills, operating rooms for training, the Training Simulation Centre, a central research laboratory with a cell culture laboratory. The book collection of the University's Scientific Library is one of the most impressive among the republican and Russian educational institutions, rendering a separate subscription of medical literature in foreign languages and remote access to leading medical databases.
