MORE THAN 40 YEARS OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO HAWKE’S BAY, GISBORNE, AND THE EAST COAST

The Eastern Institute of Technology is regarded by the Tertiary Education Commission and Ministry of Education as one of the exemplar tertiary education providers in New Zealand.  It is forty years since Hawke’s Bay and campuses were established as tertiary education institutes in Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne respectively.   As a result of the merger between the former Polytechnic and EIT Hawke’s Bay in 2010, EIT is the major provider of higher education on the east coast of the North Island.

One of the key strengths of the 130 program offerings is that they range from foundation to degree and post-graduate level.

There are satellite campuses throughout the region to enable easier student access as well as many courses delivered online.  An illustrated history of the EIT campuses was published in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of EIT in 2015.

The objectives are to highlight and analyze the contributions EIT has made to higher education and workforce development on the east coast.

Why?

Studying takes determination, commitment, and self-discipline.  As a student at EIT, you can get support to help you focus on what really matters – your studies and your future.

When you become a student at EIT, it may be your first time away from home, or it may be the first time you’ve studied at a tertiary level.  It may all be very new to you.

Your studies will take up a lot of your time, so you may need a hand with other parts of your life.

To help you get the most out of your time here, EIT offers you support in all sorts of ways.  Whether you’re after help to choose the right subjects or you need some guidance to show you the best way to get into your chosen career, there’s someone available to help.

There are other ways that EIT can help you. If you have children, childcare at our campuses in Hawke’s Bay and can take care of them while you study. If you need accommodation, ask about the possibility of staying at the student village opposite the Hawke’s Bay campus.
