Universiti Teknologi Malaysia - School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE) was established in July 1993. Among the main objectives of its inception are to promote lifelong learning, disseminate knowledge to the public and assist the government in developing human capital through various training programmes. SPACE was incorporated in 2011 as UTMSPACE. UTMSPACE has grown by leaps and bounds since its establishment. From a humble beginning of 3 staff, now it has 230 staff and 18 learning centres across Malaysia. Currently, UTMSPACE offers a number of academic and non-academic programmes with a total enrolment of 15,000 students and participants.

The Transnational Education Division was set up to develop international activities which include establishing international partnerships, managing and recruiting inbound and outbound students, and offering professional courses. The signing of collaboration agreements with other universities and institutions abroad is part of the initiatives in developing strategic alliances and expanding international linkages.
