Bundelkhand University, Jhansi was established on August 26, 1975, vide Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 10/15-60/74 under the provision of the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973. Since then the University has fast transformed into a Centre of excellence offering opportunities to the aspiring youth to pursue higher education. The University has 27 institutes of higher learning & research under 9 faculties. The institutes are offering UG, PG and Ph.D level programmes in the almost every field of studies, encompassing Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Management, Commerce, Law, Mass Comm. & Journalism, Education, Tourism, Arts and Humanities.

The University has state of art infrastructure to support its academic and research activities. Each department is having separate building, equipped with well furnished smart classrooms, departmental labs and lecture and conference halls. The central facilities includes innovation centre, animal research centre, central library, computer centre, auditorium with the capacity of 750 seats, residential facilities for faculty, staff and students, international guest house and other amenities like bank, health centre, post office, cafeteria, indoor stadium, sports facilities, gym etc.

The university is located in the historical city of Jhansi known by the ‘Fiery Queen, Maharani Lakshmi Bai ‘The Jhansi ki Rani’ who played a pivotal role in ‘The First War of Independence in 1857’. The city is the Gateway to Bundelkhand. The other nearby places of tourist attraction are Datia, Sonagir, Orcha, Shivpuri, Khajuraho, Gwalior and Agra.
