Munich Business School (then named Europäische Betriebswirtschafts-Akademie) is founded in 1991 by the European Business Schools International (ebsi) London, Paris, Madrid, and Milan. The initiators pursue one purpose above all others: to establish new benchmarks for practical orientation and internationality for business education in the economic center of Southern Germany.

The success of the conception and realization of the International Business curriculum convinces corporate partners as well as state authorities: as the first private university in Bavaria, Europäische Betriebswirtschafts-Akademie receives the state accreditation by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts.

The university is renamed Munich Business School, and the BACHELOR International Business program is introduced. MBS is one of the first to adopt the new Bachelor and Master system, introduced during the Bologna Process by 29 European Education Secretaries to create a European university standard.

The 20-month postgraduate full-time MASTER International Business program is initiated.

The first MBA program starts at Munich Business School: the 24-month Executive MBA General Management is introduced to fulfill the need for a high-quality, internationally oriented business education for experienced professionals.

At the beginning of the 2006 winter term, the international focuses “Asian-Pacific Business Studies” and “Arabian and Middle Eastern Business Studies” are introduced in the BACHELOR International Business program to fulfill the growing need for experts in these two regions. At the same time, the first Bachelor and Master students receive their degrees.

Munich Business School extends its offering: within the executive education on an academic level, MBS develops seminars and courses for managers and tailor-made corporate MBA programs.

MBS Master students get to choose the “Dual Degree” option, combining their MASTER International Business from Munich Business School with a second Master degree from one of MBS’s international partner universities. “Russian and Eastern European Business Studies” becomes the sixth international focus of the BACHELOR International Business program. Moreover, the Bachelor program is now offered in German and English. The Executive MBA Health Care Management starts for the first time, and MBS develops its first Corporate MBA program.

For the first time, the MASTER International Business program is offered entirely in English as well as in German/English. The new business concentrations “International Family Firms” and “Luxury Management” are introduced in the Master program.

As the first private university in Bavaria, Munich Business School receives the unlimited state accreditation as well as the institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities. Due to the high demand and success of the MBA General Management program, a second program start in March is introduced.

MBS introduces the study program MASTER Sports Business and Communication at the beginning of the 2011 winter term. The program, which is the first of its kind in Germany, was established and is directed by the renowned media and communication expert Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Josef Hackforth. It combines topics from sports, business, and media/communication.

In the 2012 spring term, Munich Business School has a matriculation of about 600 students. Since its founding, almost 1,000 students have received their degrees at MBS.

In the 2013/2014 fall term, the full-time program MBA International Management starts. Munich Business School extends its portfolio of Executive Education programs: four certificate courses are on offer, covering a wide array of topics from “Business Coach MBS®” to “Luxury Business Management”. Due to the high demand and success of the MASTER Sports Business and Communication proram, a second program start in February is introduced.

In cooperation with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), Munich Business School extends its range of study programs by adding the DBA Doctor of Business Administration. Thereby, MBS covers the whole spectrum of academic education: from the Bachelor to the doctorate program.

MBS receives the reaccreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities.

MBS celebrates its 25th anniversary. In the course of MBS's future strategic alignment, a new vision, mission, and values are defined.

MBS overhauls its MBA programs: from now on, both the full-time and the part-time MBA are offered under the MBA General Management nametag.

Furthermore, MBS introduces two new Master programs: the Master Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Master International Marketing and Brand Management.
