New Bulgarian University was established in 1991 and currently is the biggest private university in the country. It was the first HE insitution in Bulgaria applying credit system. Since 2004 has been approved by The Open University in the UK to offer higher education programs leading to Open University Validated Awards. NBU has a campus of three main buildings, theatre, library, two art galleries, sports facilities, several cafeterias and park area. NBU offers more than 50 undergraduate, 100 postgraduate and 35 PhD programs. Its library is the largest one in the Balkan peninsola and it provides access to 26 databases.
