Higher Education Commission (HEC) would focus improvement of quality of education in the country and make all out efforts to resolve the issues being confronted by education sector said Chairman, HEC Dr. Tariq Banuri.

Addressing the faculty and students of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) here on Thursday the Chairman said, quality of education should be focused by the educational institutions. He said, all available resources should be utilized for capacity building of the faculty and improvement of the institutions.

Vice Chancellor, FJWU, Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Registrar University Samina Bukhari, Faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Stressing the need for identifying the key issues he said, special targets should be set by the educational institutions.

HEC has to play a supportive role for higher education institutions, faculty and students at large, as it is a service organisation meant to facilitate all stakeholders, he said.

The chairman said that HEC has to go beyond numbers towards quality of higher education and safeguarding the rights of academia.

Banuri said that the trainings should be held for the faculty from time to time for their capacity building so that they may improve their potential and work smarter.

Dr. Tariq Banuri who is a PhD from Harvard University recently joined HEC as its fourth chairman.

He said, HEC and the universities are striving to help the students and invest in their future so that they could become successful citizens of the country. The HEC would not change its policy but, efforts would be made to review the problems being faced to improve quality of education. The Commission would try to find solutions for the resolution of such issues, he added.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir said that the quality education brings visible change in a society and help strengthen economics of a country.

She said, the session has provided an exposure to broad perspectives and learning opportunities for the faculty and students.
