As many as 64 Indian universities have been featured in the recently released Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad has topped the India list.

Ranked #419 in the world, IIM Ahmedabad has been ranked #1 in India with an education rank of #375 globally. It is among the top 2.1% universities in the world. With an employability ranked at #11 it is the highest among any other Indian varsities that have made it to the list. This premier institute has improved from its previous year’s #421.

This year, 20,531 institutions were ranked, and those that placed at the top made the Global 2000 list by the CWUR.

While the Indian Institute of Science has retained its spot at #2 countrywide, it has slipped from #491 to #494 among all other varsities that have been ranked world over.

This year, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (#3) has overpowered Indian Institute of Technology Madras (#4) by scaling up by one spot to take the latter’s previous position.

Ranked at #1285, Manipal Academy of Higher Education is the only private university in the country to feature among the top 6.3% universities in the world. Among the other private players among the 64 varsities are the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani), SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Xavier School of Management, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Three universities from the United States of America have secured the top three positions in the rankings. While Harvard has secured the top post, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University follow.

It may be recollected that the UAE based CWUR, a consulting organization has, since 2012, CWUR published the rankings. These assess the quality of education, employability, quality of faculty, and research, which they claim have been compiled without relying on surveys and university data submissions.
