Stressed: Students at Yale increasingly want to learn about happiness

Professor of Psychology Laurie Santos points out that high school students are anxious about the pressures of choosing further education. A quarter of students at the US college enrolled a course on positive psychology......

Almost 1,200 students, more than a quarter of all enrolled at the famed American Yale University, enrolled in psychology on happiness and happiness.

The number of students on a course in a 316-year-long college history is remarkable, and Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology at Psychology and Good Life, points out that students want to work on themselves and be happier. So far the most popular course was Psychology and Law.

"I suppose this kind of student interest is expressed because in high school they had to push their own luck because of the pressures of college enrollment, and often admit bad habits. Such habits lead to a mental health crisis among the young people we see here at Yale - says prof. Santos, and her reflections, confirms the 2013 college report, which showed that more than half of undergraduate students sought professional help for anxiety and depression problems and other mental problems.

"It is really much anxious, under stress, unlucky. We're gone. The fact that we have enrolled so much on this course is about how tired we are to choke our own emotions, both positive and negative, so that we can focus on our tasks, "New York Times told Alannah Maynes (19), a burner at Yale.

Psychology leaders point out that students have long sought the launch of a similar course, but that this interest really surprised them.

The first lecture was therefore to be transferred to the university chapel, and in two other smaller rooms, a live lecture transfer was organized.

The course deals with positive psychology - all those behaviors and characteristics that help people get the best out of themselves and the better they succeed in real life - says prof. Santos, though a certain number of students admitted to enrolling a course because they do not expect much from them. But lectures on positive psychology in the last ten years are increasingly popular in all major American universities.
