Students of the 'Dr. Franjo Tuđman 'in Brela presented their native land through the legends of the end of the picture book which they also translated for tourists.
Local traditions and the identity of the end can well and should be an important part of the educational program, more so children happily accept and shape their traditions.
They know this well in Brela Elementary School "Dr. Franjo Tuđman ", in which the students were happy to include in the creation of a unique picture book.
- The idea of creating a local picture book came out for several reasons. I am a former schoolteacher myself. I spent my entire life in Brela, which I consider to be my homeland. That love of Brela I joined my interest in oral literature - Goran Babic , Croatian language and literature professor, told us at school.
She launched and successfully completed the whole project of Brela's picture book.
"I think children need to experience the school as a place to do interesting things , not just write tests and rewrite lessons from the board or projector, and that the school should be one of the places that will nurture the native tradition, " said Goran Babic. The project has survived last school year, marking the 120th anniversary of organized education in Brela.
Worked after classes
In order to achieve the planned pupils, it was not difficult in the afternoon after the classes to come to the school and the professor would write down the legends about the cultural and historical attractions of his homeland.
- We had good cooperation with the local community. And there were some of our former school pupils who were reluctant to accept this project. TZ Brela , headed by Valentina Vitkovic, a former student, enabled us to finance the press. We opted for the art technique selection with Duj Medić , a visual artist, also a former student, who now lives in Zagreb - adds Professor Babic.
The students with their professor, after the picture book received by the full support of the director Ivan Ravlic, are also planning new projects. Since Brela and Brela's beaches are a jewel of Croatian tourism , the pictures are translated into German and English and offer tourists as promotional tourist material.
A picture book about cherries
In Brela school they decided to introduce oral Croatian literature in a special way to various teaching contents. It is just beginning to create another local picture of Brela's cherries, which until the 1970's were the main source of income for people of this region. Residents of the entire coast lived there.
- Today they are no longer there and need to be noted for the younger generation to know how their ancestors lived and what their ancestors lived - they say from school, whose pupils also achieved remarkable results this year at LiDraN county competitions.
