John Jairo Arboleda Céspedes was elected this Tuesday to the position during the period 2018 - 2021. The veterinarian will take office in the second week of April.

The Superior Council of the University of Antioquia chose, on the afternoon of this Tuesday, John Jairo Arboleda Céspedes as the new rector. Arboleda will be in charge of the most important public institution of higher education in the department between 2018 and 2021 .

Among seven candidates, Governor Luis Pérez , professors and lecturers, non-teaching public and retirees voted for the veterinarian, who has taught in the UdeA classrooms since 1994 and who, in addition, served as dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

During the session, each of the candidates presented their vision of the university, presented their proposals and answered the questions of the eight members of the Council. Among the postulates were Mauricio Alviar Ramírez (current rector), Elkin Libardo Ríos Ortiz, Pablo Javier Patiño Grajales, Edison Neira Palacio, María Helena Vivas López and Juan Carlos Amaya Castrillón.

In his resume, the Regionalization Direction of the University of Antioquia was highlighted for almost ten years and the General Vice-Rector's Office from December 2012 to April 2015. The Master of Science was also in charge of the Vice-Rector for Research, the Directorate of University Welfare and the Rectory, besides being the author of 15 articles published in different specialized magazines.

Arboleda Céspedes will take office in the second week of April 2018 before the president of the Superior Council.

Its challenges will be aimed at projecting the Universidad de Antioquia in different internationalization processes.

The governor of the department, Luis Pérez, expressed through his Twitter account: "We hope that with your commitment, I will summon the community and look to the future of the University."
