Tamwood international, a Canadian language training and study abroad provider, is expanding its work-study division, due what it says has been a popular reaction to its hospitality course.

Tamwood Careers offers students the chance to work in their field of study at the same time as they attended classes in Canada. Tamwood says this is a reaction to student demand, and the expensive nature of studying abroad.

“Study abroad is expensive; Tamwood’s programs allow the student to work part time while studying. And with paid co-op, their time in Canada can be self-supporting,” the company said in a statement.

The first program, ‘International Business and Management Co-op’, will take place in the bustling tech-hub of Vancouver, on Canada’s west coast, where Tamwood also host its ‘Global Startup School’.

The company says the course will give students a practical understanding of international business during their period of part-time study, and the chance to benefit from a period of paid full-time work in the same companies after the studies are finished.

This is a 6-month program, with a paid work element taking place with one of Tamwood’s partners, which include: Bech Accounting, Loden, and Intercruises. 

The second new course will take place away from the city, in Canada’s premium ski resort Whistler. Foundations of Food and Beverage Co-op is aimed at students wanting experience in the service and entertainment sector. 

This program will include 24-weeks of in-classroom tuition, followed by 24-weeks of “paid co-op placement”, at either Chateau Whistler, Whister Blackcomb Resort or Four Seasons Whistler. 

Students will be required to obtain both a Study permit and a Work permit to access the course. These can be accessed online. This will allow for up to 20 hours of part-time work per week, alongside study.

For the International Business and Management course, students will be required to prove their English language abilities to IELTS level 5, or equivalent, and Foundations of Food and Beverage students will be required pass level 4 of Tamwood’s own proprietary language assessment. These assessments will be made via an online test and a Skype interview. 

However, according to a spokesperson, both programs will allow for students to improve their English with Tamwood in advance of joining the courses. 

The minimum age for these courses is 19
