European University supports training of young prisoners

THE European University of Cyprus has launched the ELMIP – Empowering Learning Models in Prison Programme, co-funded by the European Union Justice Programme, implemented with partners Enoros Consulting Ltd (Cyprus) and Ergoplan AE (Greece), and the Cyprus prison department. The programme aims to provide invaluable training materials to prisoners and prison staff through innovative educational opportunities and specialised training.

In particular, it aims to shield young prisoners, develop communication skills, emotional and interpersonal skills, and improve their employability after release and achieve long-term reintegration into society.

Furthermore, it strives to develop and implement training programmes for prison staff to identify, assess and address extreme and radical attitudes, and implement deradicalisation programmes.
