The École Supérieure de la Sécurité Sociale, or ESSS, which specialises in higher education and training for professions dealing with social welfare, will introduce some courses in English so Anglophone countries will be able to recruit its graduates.

Mourad Zemali, minister for labour, employment and social security, announced during the school’s third graduation ceremony in July that from 2019 programmes in English would be included so anglophone countries in Africa could benefit from ESSS’s services, within the framework of “consolidating the role of this scientific institution at the regional and continental levels in the fields of education and exchange of experiences and expertise in social protection”, reported the Algérie Presse Service, or APS of Algiers.

The ESSS is a public institution under the joint supervision of the ministers of employment and social security, and of higher education and scientific research. 

It offers professionalised masters degree programmes in law, management, information systems and actuarial work; and continuing education courses for employees of public and private social welfare and protection organisations. It claims to be unique on the continent, and reserves a quarter of its masters courses for international students from the Maghreb and Africa.

Zemali said in future agencies responsible for providing social welfare, including those in other countries, would be able to recruit directly from the school. To this end, bilateral agreements had been made with social security organisations in Cameroon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia, reported APS.
