NUST College Of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (E&ME) And STEM Career Programme-HEC Organised The 16th Annual National Engineering Robotics Contest

NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (E&ME) and STEM Career Programme-HEC organised the 16th Annual National Engineering Robotics Contest (NERC ’18)here on Saturday. The four-day event had seven categories. As many as 183 teams from different Universities, Colleges and Institutes from all over the country participated in the competition.

Rawalpindi July 07, 2018 - The last two decades have seen tremendous activity in the field of Robotics. Robot clubs have sprung up everywhere in the world and thousands of web pages are devoted to robots. A large number of Robotics contests are held annually throughout the world. NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (E&ME) and STEM Career Programme-HEC organised the 16th Annual NationalEngineering Robotics Contest (NERC ’18)here onSaturday. The four-day event had seven categories. As many as 183 teams from different Universities, Colleges and Institutes from all over the country participated in the competitionThe prize money of these categorieswas sponsored by National Radio & Telecom Corporation (NRTC), Head Start SchoolSANCO,NEXUS, Land Mark Technologies (LMKT), SYBRID Pvt LtdAlfoze Pvt Ltd and Amreli Steels.

 

This is the pioneering and biggest Robotics contest in the country,which attracts participantfromall over the country. Lieutenant General Qazi Muhammad Ikram Ahmed, HI (M), Chief of Logistic Staffwas the chief guest of this year’s event. In his address, he commended the efforts of NUST College of E&ME in organising NERC, a platform that provides students with an opportunity to get the complete engineering experience. He also appreciated the efforts of College towards the establishment of National Centre of Robotics & Automation (NCRA)and E&ME Center of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (ICE).

 

Earlier, Brig Tariq Javed SI (M), Sitara-e-Eisaar, CommandantCollege of E&ME, welcomed the audience to NERC 2018. He made special mention of how the number of participants and the standard of competition had grown over the years. He said “We believe that healthy competitions like NERC are beacons of a progressive attitude. In a knowledge-based economy, towards which the world is heading, creativity and innovation have become essential weapons in the intellectual armoury of students.

 

At the end of the ceremony the chief guest â€‹gave away the prizes to the winning teams of NERC2018 in the following categories.

 

a) Winner NERC 2018 Shield with cash prize of Rs. 100,000 was awarded to team Terminatorfrom NUST College of E&ME.

 

b) 1st Runner-up Shield with cash prize of Rs. 70,000

c) 2nd Runner-up Shield with cash prize of Rs. 50,000 was awarded to team Martians from NUST College of E&ME.

 

d) 3 x Best Engineering Design Award with cash prize of Rs.20,000each was awarded to teamKidhar Hai from University of Engineering and TechnologyLahore Campus.

 

e) Winner Modular Category (Universities) with cash prize of Rs.25,000 was awarded to teamSaad’s Team from NUST College of E&ME.

 

f) 1st Runner-up Modular Category (Universities) with cash prize of Rs. 15,000 was awarded to team University of Balochistan from.University of Balochistan.

 

g) Winner Modular Category (Schools) with cash prize of Rs.25,000 was awarded to team Devil Bombers from Military College Jhelum

 

h) 1st Runner-up Modular Category (Schools) with cash prize of Rs. 15,000 was awarded to teamRobo Threashers from Head Start School.

 

i) Winner Ready-to-Move Category with cash prize of Rs. 25,000 was awarded to team Science Club from Islamabad Model College for Boys..

 

j) 1st Runner-up Ready-to-Move Category with cash prize of Rs. 15,000 was awarded to teamRobowarriors from Aitchison College

 

k) Winner Robo Wars with cash prize of Rs. 25,000 was awarded to team Lucifer from National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad.
