Gulf Medical University (GMU) established in 1998 is a leading medical university in the Gulf region. GMU offers Medical and Health Professional Education in the field of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Anesthesia & Surgical Technology, and Medical Imaging Sciences. GMU offers postgraduate programs in Toxicology, Public Health, Clinical Pathology. In addition, the university also offers Short Term Certificate Courses for Health workforce development and career enhancement. GMU differentiates itself having its own network of hospitals, clinics, and institutes.

The Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine, Thumbay institute for population health and Thumbay Institute of health workforce development are the hubs for research, post-graduate studies, and continuous professional development. The university programs are accredited by Ministry of Education, UAE. All programs are recognized by World Health Organization (WHO) and listed in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools and IMED under the auspices of FAIMER and the list of program offerings in universities of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) of the WHO. It has graduated about 1300 graduates and another 900 are graduated under Continuing Medical Health Education program.

Physical Space and Training Facilities:

GMU is spread in 25 acres main campus located at Ajman and it has networked with Thumbay Hospitals, Thumbay Clinics and Thumbay Pharmacies for the medical internship program. The main campus constitutes of the university main building, including laboratories, classrooms, offices, colleges/departments, library and learning center, Thumbay Diagnostic Center, Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH), Innovation and Research Center, Coffee Shop, Restaurant, Health Club, Indoor and Outdoor Sports Complexes, Health Communication Department, ATM, Conference rooms and Resource centers etc.

At present, the university has 100,000 Sq. meters. of built-up area and 29,728.97 sq. meters. area is under construction for a 400-bed smart facility Teaching Hospital, a Dental Hospital with 80 dental chairs and an advanced Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center. The new hospital which is expected to be completed by 2017-18, will be the biggest private academic hospital in the region. It is envisioned as a state-of-the-art, smart facility and will also focus on medical tourism. It will be constructed over 320,000 square feet area, in four floors, and with over 120 clinics. The hospital will feature a special robotic pharmacy, a first of its kind in the region, and will have quaternary care facilities. The hospital’s state-of-the-art laboratory will be connected to Thumbay Labs to offer highly specialized tests and diagnostic facilities. The upcoming dental hospital is a dedicated dental unit for the teaching and training the students of Dentistry which will have all dental specialties under one roof, In order to train the physical therapy students of the university, a hi-tech rehabilitation center hosting a unique state-of-the-art Sports Medicine, Hydrotherapy unit, GAIT Analysis lab and an Ergonomic simulation lab that will promote analytical and therapeutic services is under construction. The center will provide specialized physiotherapy services in the fields of Musculoskeletal, Cardio-respiratory, Neurology, Pediatrics and Women’s Health.

Thumbay Labs has three main areas of function – Clinical Research, High Complexity Laboratory Testing for super-specialties and Statistical Support for analysis of clinical research data and for the generation of evidence-based clinical practice. It has super specialty diagnostic facilities for Neonatal Screening of infants for various inborn errors of metabolism, HLA Allele Specific Sequencing, Beta Thalassemia Mutation Detection by PCR, Chromosomal Analysis, Microarray-based genetic testing and Immuno-histo-chemical assays for cancer screening.

Location: We are situated in the heart of the new Ajman metropolitan area, close to the two major international airports Dubai (30 minutes’ drive) and Sharjah (20 minutes’ drive).

Gulf Medical University is owned and operated by Thumbay Group, a diversified business conglomerate headquartered in DIFC – Dubai.
